The University of the West of England is set to become the new home of Bristol Rovers Football Club (BRFC) as it welcomes the proposal for a new football stadium at the Frenchay Campus.

The £60 million agreement will see the construction of a 20,000 seat stadium which is to be known as the ‘UWE Stadium’. The stadium design will include a club gym for student and community use as well as an all weather jogging track and incorporate facilities for match days, a retail unit, a club shop, crèche, a sports bar/club, a banqueting suite. BRFC will also construct a 1,270 space car park, which will available for supporters on match days as well as staff and students of the university.

The deal comes after the University bought 70 acres of land from Hewlett Packard including several buildings, which are now being used as an exhibition and conference centre as well as to hold examinations, in 2008.

Further to use by BRFC UWE’s rugby and soccer varsity matches will be able to use the stadium and there will be the opportunity for students to assist professional coaches.
