English Defence League Make Ties With British Freedom Party

After what was without doubt the worst week in EDL history, after 179 members of the fascist organization were arrested in connection with their plans to attack the Occupy LSX camp on Armistice Day, it comes as no great shock that the group has increased their fight back. The week following the arrests saw talk on the English Defence League Facebook page take a decisive turn towards white supremacy and on Saturday morning it was announced that Tommy Robinson (Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) ceased to be leader of the English Defence League as he felt it was time for him to take up a career in electoral politics. His party of choice, The British Freedom Party, which emerged last year from a splinter group of the BNP and so it is unsurprising that just one day later the EDL have announced official links with the party. The union brings back the classic fascist set up of a suit wearing electoral party and a thug like street army continuing their determined attacks on British Muslims and now (just like all there predecessors the National Front and Oswald Mosely’s British Union of Fascists) broadening their attacks more openly towards left wing groups and trade unions.
